Magnetic Card Reader How To Talk AboutTheseOpportunities to connect as a team are really important. This comes after aProduct launch in which most of the details of our announcementsI want you to know that I share your frustration. (If I see him backstage, Iâll try to get the scoop on Ben Simmons.) Tim Cook, in Leaked Memo, Says Employees Who Leak Memos Do Not Belong at Apple â Tim Cook, in a company-wide memo leaked to Zoe Schiffer at The Verge, after a company-wide all-hands virtual meeting, portions of which leaked to Zoe Schiffer at The Verge:Iâm writing today because Iâve heard from so many of you were were incredibly frustrated to seeThe contents of the meeting leak to reporters. In-person attendance has been scrapped because of COVID-19 (they havenât updated the website to make this clear), but virtual attendance registration is open and is now free of charge.Good lineup of keynote speakers too, including Don Lemon and Sixers president Daryl Morey. The idea that itâs somehow mean-spirited or vindictive to say leakers ought to go is ludicrous. An orchestra of the worldâs tiniest violins is queued up and ready to serenade them out the door. When some of these leakersâââall of whom signed contracts agreeing not to leak all of whom know that the overwhelming majority of their colleagues despise leaksâââwind up getting fired, itâs on them. We also know that people whoLeak confidential information do not belong here. When Tim Cook is right, heâs right. We know that the leakersConstitute a small number of people. This year theyâve already raised a whopping $572K as I type this. Jude Childrenâs Research Hospital â September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and the good folks at Relay FM always conduct a fundraiser. Letâs Raise Even More Money for St. Antonio GarcÃa MartÃnezâs knee-jerk firing probably would have been reportedâââhis hiring was news, so his firing would have been tooâââbut Iâm not sure about any of the others. Appleâs Slack fiasco, the ( self-indulgent, in my opinion) internal letter that circulated amongst employees dissatisfied with the companyâs post-COVID plans for new work-from-home policies, another internal letter asking Tim Cook to take a pro-Palestinian stance, the petition demanding an investigation into the hiring of Antonio GarcÃa MartÃnezâââall of those leaks came in the last five months, and all of them were reported first by Schiffer. If Schiffer werenât on this beat, most of these stories would not be public. Sheâs on the labor beat at The Verge, not a product beat, but sheâs reported more leaks from Apple than anyone in recent monthsâââperhaps more leaks than all other reporters combinedâââand has established herself as a must-read reporter regarding Apple. (And if you do chip in, check if your employer matches charitable contributions.) My iPad Stand, 2021 Edition â Last April, after posting this photo of my desk setup for my iPad Air review, I got a few questions about the stand I was using to prop up the iPad. Tiltify, the platform theyâre using for fundraising, makes it super simple to contribute, including support for Apple Pay.Letâs push Relayâs campaign way over the top with a push from the DF audience. Jude is an amazing institution: they both provide world-class treatment for kids with cancer free of charge and perform research to make those treatments better and more effective. (If you buy one through this link, Iâll earn affiliate revenue that will get me one step closer to buying one of the upcoming Jony Ive/Marc Newson-designed electric Ferraris.)Amazonâs multi-angle stand is extremely similar to Ankerâs in size, weight, and angles of tilt. I even bought one to try it out before linking to it. Itâs such a blatant rip-off of Ankerâs stand that ordinarily I wouldnât link to it, on principle, but, given that Ankerâs original is seemingly no longer being produced, a rip-off design is the best we can do. Alas, that stand is no longer available. The closest thing I could find is this $10 copy of that stand from Amazon Basics. Last week I posted a similar photo, this time for my iPad Mini review, and Iâm still using the same stand. (Why French? Update: ) This is as helpful as printing âPressâ on the knock of a click pen. My biggest annoyance is that Amazon, for some reason, decided to screen print âPress/Presseâ on the button that you quite obviously must press to adjust the tilt. Whereas Ankerâs felt like a bargain at $15, this one feels like what youâd expect from a $10 knock-off. Ferrari Hires LoveFrom, Jony Iveâs Oddly-Named Design Firm â Katie Deighton, reporting for The Wall Street Journal:Ferrari NV hired Apple Inc.âs former design chief Jony Ive as itReadies its debut into full electric vehicles.Mr. It folds flat, and when your iPad is sitting in it, the stand effectively disappears. A wee nip of nail polish remover took care of that, though.I still recommend it. Alongside its legacy production of itsEngine-powered cars, the company sells clothes, watches and otherIf they wind up shipping a car through this collaboration, it might not cost that much more than the scrapped first draft Apple Car under Ive, which Iâve heardâââadmittedly like fourth-handâââwould have started at $150,000. Ferrari declined to reveal the specifics of the collaboration, butSaid it sees potential in working with LoveFrom across the wholeRange of its business. How many normal people do you know who ever buy anything that plugs into a Lightning port other than a USB cable? And Apple doesnât make more money selling their own (admittedly overpriced) Lightning cables to iPhone owners than they do selling their own (also overpriced) USB-C cables to iPad Pro and MacBook owners. My theory is that Apple carefully weighs the pros and cons for each port on each device it makes, and chooses the technologies for those ports that it thinks makes for the best product for the most people. Itâs loose-change-under-the-couch-cushion revenue by Appleâs astonishingly high standards. But I donât think thereâs serious money in that. And theyâre glad to have control over all iPhone peripherals.
